Winton North Solar Farm
Winton North Solar farm is currently under development, and is set to provide over 100MWac/131MWdc of solar power to Victoria. The site is located approximately 22 km southwest of Wangaratta.
“With our integrated development, engineering, procurement, construction and operations capability, I believe EE is in a strong position to deliver quality projects in a timely and efficient manner. This is the key to securing affordable, sustainable energy for our customers.”Catriona McLeod, Country Manager Australia, European Energy
European Energy is committed to maximising the benefits of the project for the local community. Opportunities will be given for local contractors to supply goods and services, particularly during project construction. In addition, a Community Benefit Fund will be established to share funds from the Solar Farm with community groups. This will be established once the project reaches Operation in 2027.
The project will connect to Ausnet’s existing transmission network at Glenrowan Terminal Station. Approximately 5km of electrical line will connect the solar farm to the substation. Sections of this line will run overhead on poles, and some sections will run underground.
EE Australia is developing a 100MW, 2-hour battery on the project site in conjunction with the Solar Farm. The addition of the battery will provide a robust asset for the local grid, meaning more energy from the solar farm will be available when it’s needed most, keeping the lights on at dinner time. The battery is set to enter construction next year, and EE will conduct specific engagement about the battery when closer to construction. The solar farm is being designed with the battery in mind, and fire and emergency management plans for the project will consider the battery from an early stage.
