European Energy Australia strengthens ties with the FNBGGGTB Group in Queensland

Oct 15, 2026

Renewable energy developer European Energy Australia and the FNBGGGTB Group through their Registered Native Title Body Corporate (FNBGGGTB) have today signed multiple cultural heritage management agreements and shared prosperity agreements in Queensland.

The agreements cover cultural heritage management and long-term benefit sharing arrangements between the parties on three of European Energy’s local projects in Queensland – Bullyard, Upper Calliope and Tyrone.

The FNBGGGTB Group represents the Bailai, Gurang, Gooreng Gooreng and Taribelang Bunda peoples, who are the Traditional Owners and native title holders of the Bundaberg and Gladstone regions of Queensland. The group is playing a crucial role in ensuring its people benefit from the strong renewable energy sector that is developing in the region.

The agreements are the result of a partnership that started more than three years ago and guarantee cultural heritage protection and substantial long-term and intergenerational benefits for the FNBGGGTB peoples.

European Energy Australia Managing Director Catriona McLeod joined FNBGGGTB representatives to sign the agreements on Thursday and said it was a wonderful day for the company.

“We’re really proud of the work we’ve done with the FNBGGGTB Group and other Traditional Owner groups that host our projects. We aim to create partnerships which are meaningful and mutually beneficial, and agreements like those we’ve signed today help make that a reality,” said Ms McLeod.

Matthew Cooke, Group Chief Executive Officer for the FNBGGGTB Group said the organisation was glad to be continuing its association with European Energy and looked forward to investigating more opportunities for collaboration in the future.

“We’ve been working with European Energy for three or four years now and we’ve seen that relationship go from strength to strength over that time. The renewables transition offers exciting opportunities for First Nations people and these partnerships allow us to maximise those opportunities,” said Mr Cooke.

The strong partnership between the FNBGGGTB Group and European Energy Australia has previously been acknowledged by the Clean Energy Council when it awarded the two organisations its First Nations Engagement and Participation Award for 2025.
