European Energy’s Mokoan Solar Farm selected as part of the Australian Government’s Capacity Investment Scheme Tender 1

Dec 29, 2024

The success of European Energy’s first completed project in Australia, the Mokoan Solar Farm in Winton, Victoria, has been recognised through selection as part of the Australian Government’s Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS) Tender 1. Australia’s clean energy transformation boosted by 19 projects – DCCEEW.

“We are thrilled to produce our first power in Australia”, said Catriona McLeod, Country Manager for European Energy in Australia, “And very proud of having our first project selected for the Capacity Investment Scheme”.

The CIS is an Australian Government revenue underwriting scheme to provide a long-term revenue safety net for renewables investment, decreasing investment risk.  Projects in the competitive tender process are selected on their ability to contribute to Australia’s renewable energy targets, as well as factors including sharing benefits with local communities and procuring from local Australian businesses. See Capacity Investment Scheme – DCCEEW.

The Mokoan Solar Farm has a capacity of 58MW, which can supply more than 18,000 households, and will contribute to a reduction in carbon emissions by over 85,000 tonnes a year.   Construction has delivered millions of dollars to local and Australian businesses and over 150 jobs. During operations, the project will deliver on-going jobs, procurement contracts and community and First Nations benefits funding.

Construction of the Mokoan Solar Farm was completed in November 2024, less than a year from its financial investment decision. The project will now commence further testing and commissioning before becoming fully operational by June 2024.

“With our skilled in-house Engineering, Procurement and Construction team at the helm, we finished construction of Mokoan Solar Farm on budget and ahead of schedule. This is just the first of our large pipeline of projects in Australia”, said Catriona McLeod.

Founded in Denmark in 2004, European Energy is a leading player globally in renewable energy, across solar, wind, green hydrogen, e-methanol and other emerging technologies.
